Where Gordon's Bay's older streets sit tucked under the mountains with some shelter from the worst of the summer wind, Strand's beachfront runs long, straight and flat, with nothing standing between a balcony and the open bay. That openness means bigger, more consistent light and glare through the day, and exterior fittings here need a genuinely robust wind rating regardless of which way the unit faces.
Sand and salt together
Beachfront living here means fine airborne sand as well as salt spray reaching balconies on a windy day — a combination that's hard on chain mechanisms and open brackets in particular. We lean towards sealed cassettes and motorised control on anything mounted outside a Strand apartment, for exactly this reason.
Apartment stock, body corporate rules likely
Much of Strand's beachfront is sectional title, so an awning, a zip screen or even a change to a blind's external fascia colour typically needs body corporate sign-off before it's fitted. We ask about your building's specific rules at the first call.
